At Melbourne Water, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sewerage Operations Specialist to join our operations team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the control room, ensuring system flows are optimised to meet regulatory, commercial and risk management requirements.

About the Role

This is a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm position working on site at Brooklyn, with occasional travel to other plants expected. You will work collaboratively with maintenance partners to efficiently and safely deliver maintenance activities, including approving sewer access requests and tracking technician call in and out.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
  • Monitoring, controlling and optimising system flows to comply with regulatory, commercial and risk management drivers or other imposed limits (e.g. by treatment plant capacity, maintenance, balancing of flows in extreme wet weather).
  • Carrying out fault finding analysis of Sewerage Transfer network issues as represented in the SCADA system.
  • Reviewing system performance and procedures to ensure assets are maintained efficiently and meet expected levels of service.
  • Working closely with maintenance partners to efficiently and safely deliver maintenance activities, including approving sewer access requests and tracking technician call in and out.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Control Room.
Key Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of transfer/distribution networks or large plant/equipment.
  • Appropriate knowledge and experience with hydraulic relationships, pumping, odour treatment and mechanical processes.
  • Competence in the use of IT and ability to follow instructions in SCADA systems for monitoring, control, data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and assess situations to identify problems and take necessary action.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with people from different backgrounds and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
