Health Information Management Specialist

The role of a Health Information Management Specialist is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient data. This position plays a critical part in maintaining the high standards of healthcare information management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To accurately code patient records using ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes, adhering to Australian Coding Standards and NSW Health guidelines.
  • To collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • To contribute to quality and compliance through coding audits, HACs reviews, clinical reviews, and PICQ and RISQ indicator maintenance.
  • To support continuous improvement by staying up-to-date with coding developments and implementing new practices from IHACPA/NSW Health.
  • To grow and share expertise by assisting with training new coders, answering coding queries, and participating in quality initiatives such as EQUIP.

Requirements:

  • Formal qualifications in health information management or a related field, with proven experience in coding.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ICD-10-AM coding and knowledge of Australian Coding Standards and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in coding systems and technology, including Solventum Coding and Grouping software, along with strong computer skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians and colleagues.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, able to work both independently and as part of a supportive team, with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
