English Department Head

The English Department Head is a key leadership position responsible for driving academic excellence, staff development, and a culture of care, pride, and growth within the school's English department.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Foster a positive learning culture within the English department by leading by example, cultivating respectful relationships with staff and students, and promoting high expectations and continuous improvement.
  2. Use student achievement data to inform decision-making, analyze data across the English learning area, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement targeted interventions to support staff in developing data literacy.
  3. Provide curriculum leadership with deep content knowledge, ensuring programs are well-sequenced, compliant, inclusive, and responsive to student and community needs; align curriculum delivery with whole-school priorities.
  4. Oversee the effective functioning of the English department, including assessment and reporting processes, resource management, and staff coordination; contribute to whole-school planning, policy implementation, and improvement initiatives.
  5. Be a visible and active member of the school's leadership team, modelling the school's values and leading meaningful change to positively impact the learning experience of all students in the English learning area.

  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge and ability to apply this knowledge to ensure high educational outcomes for all students.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage staff, physical, and financial resources effectively.
