About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lawyer to join our team at Queensland Health. As a Senior Lawyer, you will play a critical role in providing legal services to the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, the Director General and Deputy Directors General, and other Departmental offices and business units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and services to the Minister, Director General, and other Departmental offices and business units.
  • Manage and progress urgent legal matters in accordance with client expectations and overall objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse client group, including clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and colleagues to achieve business outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Laws degree and admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister, solicitor, or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • Minimum 5 years post-admission experience, preferably in the practice area highlighted below.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland Health portfolio legislation, including public and administrative law, human rights, health regulatory, and workplace, industrial relations, and WHS.
  • Experience in litigation in Courts and Tribunals, alternative dispute resolution, commissions of inquiry, and coronial inquests.
  • Experience in corporate and commercial law, including contract drafting and negotiation, procurement, ICT, clinical research, IP, construction, infrastructure, and other major projects.
