The Australian Public Service (APS) is seeking a highly skilled Work Health and Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Directorate of Health Safety and Environment, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all our people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage WHS incident interventions across Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and ensure adequacy of regulator response documentation.
  • Develop and implement WHS programs based on risk controls, regulator recommendations and assurance program outcomes.
  • Manage the quality of WHS information within the incident reporting tool.
  • Accountable to interpret data and report WHS performance to various committees and forums.
  • Develop and manage the CASG WHS Assurance program to measure WHS conformance and compliance.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive work health and safety issues.
Key ActivitiesWHS Officer (Assurance)

WHS Officer (Hazard Management)
  • Accountable for research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety (WHS) risks to capability.
  • Develop and implement WHS programs for critical hazards including plant, radiation and hazardous chemicals.
  • Develop and manage WHS critical hazard management policies, processes and guidance in accordance with legislation and Defence policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate delivery of WHS critical hazard regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Engage and advise internal and external stakeholders on complex WHS issues and legislative requirements.
Requirements
  • Organised, and have the ability to manage competing priorities to respond to your stakeholders needs.
  • Proactive, and use your initiative to make informed decisions and solve complex problems under limited direction.
  • Strategically focused, supporting and contributing to the development and implementation of strategic WHS activities.
