Our mission at Whitelion is to empower young people with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
About the Role
As a Volunteer Mentor, you will be matched with a young person who requires guidance and support. Your role will involve providing regular contact and encouragement, helping your mentee build confidence and develop meaningful relationships within their community.
The guidance you provide will help your mentee navigate challenges and increase their social connections. Over time, you will see them grow and thrive as individuals.
About You
We are looking for individuals who possess certain personal competencies and attributes. These include:
- Friendliness and ability to establish communication with a young person in a non-judgmental manner
- Openness to learning from young people and recognising their unique perspective, experiences and contributions
- Good awareness of capabilities and willingness to ask for support and guidance when needed
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and open to receiving and discussing feedback
- Understanding of professional boundaries and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
- High degree of integrity and ability to manage emotions appropriately in sensitive or challenging situations
In addition to these competencies, we require our mentors to be available for regular contact with a young person over a 12-month period and attend monthly supervision meetings.
