Pest Management Specialist

Job Opportunity: Hinchinbrook Shire Council is seeking a skilled professional to join our Natural Assets Team as a Pest Management Specialist.
About the Role: As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for protecting and enhancing the unique environment of the Hinchinbrook Shire. Your primary duties will include the on-ground delivery of restoration, ecosystem services, and risk mitigation activities, including revegetation, coastal management, and invasive species control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver restoration and ecosystem services projects to protect and enhance the Hinchinbrook Shire environment.
- Conduct field inspections, public education, data collection, and general maintenance activities.
- Engage with landholders and agency field staff to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and promote sustainable practices.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in coastal, invasive species, or natural resource management, including a working knowledge of relevant interventions and legislation.
- Current Queensland 'C' Class license (mandatory).
- Experience in operating 4wd vehicles in challenging conditions (mandatory).
- Current Queensland Commercial Operators License – Herbicides (or the ability to obtain).
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise, negotiate with, and transfer knowledge to a wide range of people and stakeholders.
- Computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office products and other information technologies, including Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software.
- Demonstrated ability to participate productively in a team environment and work autonomously with minimal supervision.
