Csiro is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP). As a key member of our research team, you will contribute to the development of advanced in vitro organ models to answer key challenges in infectious disease research.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct innovative and impactful research in the prevention, detection, and response to exotic disease threats.
- Develop in vitro organ models by co-culturing different cell types, such as cell lines, stem cells, or dissociated cells from harvested animal tissues.
- Characterise in vitro organ models by their defined, repeatable, and scalable nature, proving relevant to diseases and suitable for health and disease investigations.
- Collaborate with the Science Leader of Advanced Ex Vivo Biosystems and other team members to leverage new developments in the field of infectious disease affecting poultry, swine, and cattle.
- Contribute to the development of in vitro organ models focusing on the brain or immune system, with a focus on diseases of high consequence and increasing concern to Australia's agricultural and aquatic industries.
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as neuroscience, medical science, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or bioengineering.
- Experience with mammalian or avian cell culture techniques and experience with dissociating cells from harvested tissues.
- Experience with advanced cell culture systems for co-culture of different cell types, such as 3D cell culture, transwell system, and/or organ-on-a-chip culture.
- Experience in cell characterisation skills for genetic and phenotypic properties, such as DNA/RNA sequencing, flow cytometry, confocal microscope imaging, imaging analysis, tissue section, immunostaining, and biochemical assays.
- Publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, grant applications, or patents.
