Local History Officer

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and promotion of local history, working with archives and community heritage groups.

The successful candidate will have excellent time management skills, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and provide exceptional customer service. Experience in Microsoft Office suite and a Tafe Certificate II in Information Services would be highly regarded.

A key aspect of this position is building organisational knowledge and encouraging community usage and participation in local history. This involves assisting in the digitisation of local history resources, collaborating with local community heritage and history groups, and providing customers with access to archives and family history collections.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing front desk customer service at the library
  • Assisting in collecting, identifying, researching, conserving, and maintaining resources of historical/social interest relevant to the Singleton Local Government Area
  • Contributing to the digitisation of local history resources
  • Assisting in seeking out local contemporary and historical information
  • Maintaining the Civic Art Collection

Essential criteria for this position include:

  • Higher school certificate education or equivalent experience and/or qualification
  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including sound conflict resolution skills
