Mental Health Specialist Nurse

About the Role:
As a Mental Health Specialist Nurse in our Youth Justice team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mental health nursing care to young people in custody. You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to provide recovery-oriented treatment and support, utilizing a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework.
The role incorporates 1:1 therapeutic time with young people, consumer-advocacy, collaborative bed and unit management, research, supervision, mentorship/preceptorship, and facilitation of groups. You will also deliver specialist mental health nursing interventions, manage critical incidents and emergency situations, and work across AM, PM, night, and weekend shifts.
You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and contribute to the development of innovative mental health care models in a first-of-its-kind voluntary 8-bed forensic mental health unit.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver evidence-based nursing care to young people across 24 hours, 7 days a week roster
- Provide specialist mental health nursing interventions, and effectively manage critical incidents and emergency situations
- Work across AM, PM, night, and weekend shifts
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Registration as a Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or Bachelor Degree in Nursing
- Studying towards a post-graduate qualification in Mental Health if this has not already been achieved
- 12+ months clinical experience in mental health, preferably in a youth mental health and/or forensic setting
- Ability to deliver personalised psycho-social care beyond the traditional medical model to facilitate recovery of young people

Average Salary: AU$93,000 per year based on location and industry standards.
