About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Biomedical Engineer to join our team at UNSW Australia.

Role Overview

The Senior Biomedical Engineer will work in the School of Chemistry at UNSW Sydney and contribute to interdisciplinary projects involving biofabrication, stem cell and tissue engineering, with particular emphasis on organoid bioengineering from pluripotent stem cells.

This will involve daily mammalian cell culture, cell and molecular biology characterisation, recombinant DNA techniques, polymer synthesis and bioconjugation, 3D bioprinting, and imaging using light and electron microscopes.

About You

  • You have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
  • You have a proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • You have demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • You have a track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • You have experience working in a team, collaborating across disciplines and building effective relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cell and tissue culture in a BSL2 laboratory.
  • Develop tuneable 3D hydrogel biomaterials and encapsulate cells, spheroids and organoids.
  • Perform immunofluorescence staining and imaging, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, western analysis, etc.
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reporting to other researchers and industry partners.

What We Offer

  • A salary of $110k - $117k per annum, plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • A fixed term position for 2 years.
  • Full-time (35 hours per week).
