Night Shelter Support Specialist

This is a challenging and rewarding role for an individual who is passionate about working with marginalized populations.
The successful candidate will provide direct support to clients in need, using basic one-on-one counselling techniques, life skills training, and harm reduction approaches.
Duties include assisting with resident support plan development and delivery of services, collaborating with the Team Lead/Site Supervisor and support team.
The ideal candidate will be able to develop trusting relationships with residents and assist with daily living tasks such as room cleaning and laundry.
Additional responsibilities include providing wellness checks, distributing supplies, and engaging residents in activities.
A team player, this individual will collaborate with the team on how to engage residents, utilizing a collaborative approach as needed.
Evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention plans, reporting on client progress, and discussing related concerns with the Supervisor are also key aspects of this role.
Gathering information relevant to clients' problems, needs, and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, and meeting with service providers is crucial.
This includes planning, preparing, and conducting basic individual counselling sessions using active listening, conflict resolution, and psycho-educational group methods.
Maintenance of accurate records and statistics, providing reports to Supervisors as required, rounds out the responsibilities of this position.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma in a related human/social service field.
- A minimum of one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Benefits:
- Full-time employment, working three 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week), Sunday, Monday, Tuesday nights (7pm to 7am).
