About the Role

This position involves providing geotechnical expertise and support to the Integrated Planning and Underground Mining Departments.

  • Conduct geotechnical engineering design, inspection, and analysis related to stope stability, underground infrastructure, and underground development.
  • Ensure all controls to manage Underground Mine global stability, rockfall, and inrush risks are effective.
  • Collaborate with the open pit geotechnical team to manage shared geotechnical risks to Cowal Gold Operations.
  • Implement the Ground Control Management Plan and conduct field observations to verify compliance with standards and Safe Work Practices.

This specialist will also:

  • Identify, report, and seek rectification of hazards and eliminate risk-taking behaviors or actions.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards safety and increase safety awareness by leading safety training and setting an example for others.
  • Provide geotechnically sound solutions for stope design and underground development design.
  • Assist the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer with providing geotechnically sound solutions for stope sequencing, underground infrastructure design, and portal design.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining / Geoscience / Civil with a major in Geomechanics or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role in underground mining or civil tunnelling.
  • A working understanding of safety systems, geotechnical controls, and mining operations.
  • A working knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with various teams and personnel backgrounds.
