Community Visitor Opportunity

As a Community Visitor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the welfare and safety of inmates in correctional centres throughout New South Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the community and make a positive impact on people's lives.

About the Role

The Inspector of Custodial Services (ICS) oversees the Official Visitor Program in correctional facilities and youth justice centres. As a Community Visitor, you will work under this framework to resolve enquiries and complaints made by inmates and assist in monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates.

  • Resolve enquiries and complaints made by inmates in a fair and impartial manner
  • Monitor the conditions and treatment of inmates in custodial centres
Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be assigned to one custodial centre for up to four years to conduct half-day or full-day visits to the centre either once a fortnight or once a month. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting regular visits to the centre to monitor the conditions and treatment of inmates
  • Responding to enquiries and complaints made by inmates in a timely and effective manner
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Report writing skills and computer literacy
  • Ability and willingness to travel to attend training or corporate activities when required
