Newcastle Private Hospital is a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit.

We also have a cardiac suite including a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16 bed Coronary Care Unit. A private maternity suite including 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery is available for families in the Newcastle region. Our goal is to provide exceptional patient care and experience during their stay with us.

Job Description

The CMO is responsible for the immediate day-to-day medical care of inpatients (including post-surgical patients, cardiac patients, medical patients, and maternity patients) at the hospital. They will provide evidence-based medical care to patients of varying ages and cultural groups within the Hospital.

The position is supported by the ICU CMO team and will be responsible for providing medical support to the consultants and nursing staff who work within the hospital with the aim of assisting with improving clinical outcomes and patient management.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Current Medical Practitioner AHPRA Registration
  • PGY5 or more
  • Current Advanced Life Support certification
  • Ability to identify deteriorating patients and provide immediate resuscitation
  • Team player with excellent clinical assessment and communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and organisational skills
  • Possession of NSW driver's licence
  • Good general medical skills including acute and geriatric medicine (including simple procedures e.g. cannulation, venepuncture, arterial puncture)
  • Prior experience in Critical care / ICU medicine desirable
