Furniture Maker Role

This is an opportunity to use your skills to empower local First Nations employees through hands-on mentorship in a community-driven environment.

  • You will have the chance to live and work in Nhulunbuy, immersing yourself in Yolngu culture and community life.
  • Craft stunning, custom furniture using a range of tools and techniques.
  • Mentor and train a team of Yolngu trainees, helping build their skills and confidence.
  • Be part of something bigger – a workshop that blends artistry, purpose, and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of Yolngu trainees in the workshop.
  • Interpreting architectural and technical drawings to bring designs to life.
  • Using various tools to create high-quality pieces.
  • Managing timelines and collaborating with the team to deliver projects.
  • Championing values and maintaining a safe, clean, and inspiring workspace.

Requirements:

  • Trade qualifications in Cabinetmaking, Joinery, Shopfitting, or Furniture Making.
  • 5+ years of experience in furniture production and finishing.
  • Proven leadership in a workshop setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • OH&S White Card, NT Driver's License (or ability to obtain), and willingness to travel.
  • Confidence with Microsoft Office and workshop planning.
