Job Overview
NAAFLS is seeking a Governance Officer / Executive Assistant to provide high-level administrative support to the CEO and Executive Team, as well as ensure governance, risk, and compliance across all NAAFLS activities.

About the Company
NAAFLS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) and independent Family Violence Prevention Legal Service (FVPLS). We provide culturally sensitive legal advice, assistance, representation, and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Top End communities who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence. Our primary practice areas are family law, child protection, and domestic violence; though we frequently intervene in coronial inquiries, parliamentary inquiries, and other administrative or criminal proceedings as required.

Main Responsibilities
- Act as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on all governance matters, including risk and compliance management, and corporate governance best practices
- Develop, review, and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective governance and risk management across NAAFLS
- Coordinate and manage the administration of the Board and its sub-committees, ensuring that meetings are scheduled, agendas are prepared, minutes are recorded, and actions are tracked

Key Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in governance, risk management, compliance, or legal roles, with an understanding of corporate governance principles and regulatory frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, ideally within a not-for-profit, Indigenous, or public sector organisation
- Expertise in supporting Boards and senior management on governance matters
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legal and cultural issues
