About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to join our team at Programmed. As a key member of our Future Energy Systems team, you will play a critical role in shaping the energy landscape across regional Western Australia.

As a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for developing Future Energy System plans and strategies for our client's energy systems through the Integrated Resource Planning methodology. You will lead the development of generation and network (transmission and distribution) long-term plans and solutions in each system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Future Energy System plans and strategies for our client's energy systems through the Integrated Resource Planning methodology.
  • Lead the development of generation and network (transmission and distribution) long-term plans and solutions in each system.
  • Lead and undertake system studies to understand capacity, reliability, and power quality constraints, particularly with increasing integration of renewables, energy storage, and new technology/innovations.
  • Manage and maintain regional engagement and ensure that all FES plans for the respective regions include proposed capital works and understand their impact to the longer-term vision.
  • Conduct system impact studies for all Large Enterprise (LE) customers for the respective region and support Business Development towards providing customers with options on how to connect to the Company's systems.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Engineering Degree in Electrical is essential.
  • Eligibility for corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia (desirable).
  • Must have experience working in Australia in either Renewables, Power Generation, Transmission, or Distribution.
  • Must have full working rights to work in Australia.
  • Sound knowledge of energy systems (generation, transmission, and distribution).
  • Sound knowledge of energy systems planning principles and financial analysis evaluation principles.
  • Sound knowledge of generation, transmission, and distribution assets.
  • Relevant industry experience, skills, and knowledge covering energy systems (generation, transmission, and distribution) planning, design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Renewable energy and energy storage technologies.
  • Financial analysis evaluation principles and methodologies.
  • Commercial aspects of the energy industry.
  • Project management techniques.
  • Expert application of power system studies load flow and dispatch modelling.
  • Proficient in use of asset databases and systems, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of the electricity industry regulatory environment.
  • Experience in PowerFactory and Homer highly desirable.
  • Experience working within a regulatory environment.
