About the Role

The Armour Shop Operator plays a crucial role in the production of composite armour panels, supporting both assembly and finishing processes.

This involves preparing materials and components prior to bonding, ensuring all surfaces are properly treated, and assisting with the accurate placement and curing of adhesives.

You will also contribute to quality control by inspecting parts for defects and ensuring compliance with safety and manufacturing standards throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assembling and finishing composite armour modules in accordance with technical specifications;
  • Designing and assembling jigs and assembly fixtures for component manufacture;
  • Preparing metal components for adhesive bonding processes;
  • Loading and operating hydraulic curing presses;
  • Operating fabric cutting benches for the preparation of Kevlar and fiberglass material;
  • Using vacuum tables with heating functions;
  • Collaborating with Waterjet operators on processing components; and
  • Material handling using overhead cranes and pallet handling equipment.

The ideal candidate possesses experience working with vacuum sealing equipment or performing adhesive repairs under vacuum. They should also be willing to receive training on cutting equipment and cross-trained on other Armour Shop equipment.

Required Qualities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a production environment;
  • Ability to follow instructions and work autonomously; and
  • Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
