About the Role

This is a leadership role within our mechanical engineering team, reporting to the Superintendent Technical Engineering. As a Mechanical Engineering Team Lead, you will provide technical leadership, mentoring, and expertise to your team and the wider Engineering Department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a culture of care by promoting safety and engaging with your team to achieve continuous safety improvement.
  • Setting technical direction and strategy as part of the Technical Engineering leadership team.
  • Providing leadership, prioritizing, reviewing, and managing the effective delivery of technical engineering activities.
  • Supporting team performance and capability development through peer support, collaboration, and feedback.
  • Coaching and guiding team members to identify improvement opportunities, problem-solve, and improve how we work.
  • Providing technical guidance to support third parties to align with BHP engineering standards.
  • Supporting engineering activities across the Copper SA asset and capital projects to ensure consistent fit-for-purpose engineering standards are applied.
  • Exercising a proficient level of technical knowledge and expertise to independently make informed decisions.
About You

We are looking for individuals with strong technical and leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a passion for creating a culture of care. Your experience should include:

  • Engineering degree qualification.
  • Experience in mining, processing, complex construction, or heavy industrial environments with a range of roles including technical support, projects, and leadership.
  • Highly engaged, collaborative, and committed to building mutually beneficial relationships across operational and functional teams.
  • Experience in a senior role with engineering design, safety in design, engineering management, statutory compliance, and risk management.
  • Effective and influential team leadership experience with proven change culture demonstrated.
  • Well-developed communication skills with an interest in providing technical leadership, support, and solutions.
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable, and make informed decisions.
