Job Overview

QinetiQ is a global defence and security company seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to support laboratory compliance, scientific excellence, operational efficiency, and cross-regional alignment.

The role is based in Brisbane and is part of the Engineering Services division. The successful candidate will lead a team, drive quality, regulatory compliance, and innovation, ensuring equipment maintenance and availability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and schedule activities within laboratories and ensure equipment maintenance and availability.
  • Work with teams, risk owners, and stakeholders to maintain laboratory compliance.
  • Conduct plant risk assessments and develop associated documentation.
  • Assist with documenting laboratory processes and operating procedures.
  • Maintain complex scientific equipment, monitor performance, standardize and calibrate as necessary.
  • Organize quotations and purchasing artifacts to support maintenance/calibration activities.
  • Assist with regular audits and workplace inspections and establish/maintain laboratory records.
  • Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain general laboratory housekeeping and undertake procurement as required.
  • Ensure laboratory users are onboarded and hold appropriate competencies.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience in a hands-on laboratory environment and in laboratory management.
  • Experience with safety management and risk assessment processes.
  • Good written and verbal communication for a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Qualifications or training relevant to laboratory management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.
