Job Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to fill the role of Assistant Director within our Consumer and Fair Trading Division.

  • The successful candidate will work on some of the biggest issues facing consumers and businesses, contributing to protecting consumer interests and supporting fair trading in markets affecting Australian consumers and small business.

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Focus: Ensuring overall management and direction of activities, investigations or projects align with Compliance and Enforcement Policy, plans and directions.
  • Investigation and Project Management: Developing, implementing and reviewing plans for the conduct of investigations and/or projects, including resource allocation and expenditure monitoring.
  • Documentation and Communication: Preparing internal and external documents, including staff papers, notices, undertakings, correspondence, reports, minutes, briefs, and media releases.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Developing and maintaining effective working relationships and professional networks with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advice and Position Development: Providing advice on trends and patterns, industry and consumer behavior, and impacts of broader environmental change, as well as contributing to ACCC positions on legislative and policy reform.

Requirements include:

  • Comprehensive Knowledge of Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) or demonstrated ability to acquire this knowledge.
  • Investigation and Project Management Experience: Demonstrated experience in managing investigations and/or projects, including efficient and effective resource allocation, achievement of standards, and delivery of outcomes.
  • Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to undertake objective, systematic analysis to draw accurate conclusions and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation, with the ability to guide and develop staff.
