Lead News Editor Role in Melbourne

We are seeking a skilled editorial professional to lead our news team in Melbourne. As a leading media organisation, we value innovative and high-quality journalism that engages audiences.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the news agenda by proposing considered and original ideas for news and feature stories. You will work collaboratively with other editors to plan, edit, and commission news and feature content. This will involve editing copy, reviewing headlines, and ensuring all legal issues are addressed before publication.

  • You will provide guidance and support to selected reporters, helping them develop their skills and knowledge on a daily basis.
  • You will stay up-to-date with national and international news sources, including wire services, news websites, social media, and broadcast media, to identify unique story opportunities for our audience.
Requirements
  • You must have at least 6-7 years' experience in editorial roles, preferably in digital environments.
  • You must have a strong understanding of national and Victorian news, with knowledge of NSW and Queensland state issues being an advantage.
  • You must be able to manage teams effectively, develop talent, and drive career progression.
  • You must be aware of diversity and inclusion principles.
  • You must possess excellent writing, commissioning, and editing skills.
  • You must demonstrate strong news judgment.
  • You must be able to work efficiently as part of a team, be flexible, and adaptable.
