Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Category Strategy Director to join our team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our category direction and driving sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction across both retail stores and online channels.

Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute category strategies aligned with our growth targets. You will need to analyse market trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activity to uncover opportunities and mitigate risks.

You will also be responsible for negotiating with suppliers to secure the best terms, speed to market, promotional support, and trade spend. Additionally, you will partner with planning and supply teams to optimise inventory levels and avoid out-of-stocks.

You will collaborate with marketing to create compelling category campaigns and in-store experiences. Furthermore, you will monitor category performance and take proactive action to hit sales, margin, and growth targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with company growth targets
  • Analyse market trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activity to uncover opportunities and mitigate risks
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best terms, speed to market, promotional support and trade spend
  • Partner with planning and supply teams to optimise inventory levels and avoid out-of-stocks
  • Collaborate with marketing to create compelling category campaigns and in-store experiences
  • Monitor category performance and take proactive action to hit sales, margin, and growth targets
  • Ensure consistent execution across online and in-store merchandising, including planograms and product placement
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following skills and qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience in merchandising, category management, or retail buying
  • A track record of driving sales and margin growth through smart category strategies
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable plans
  • Excellent negotiation skills and proven success managing supplier relationships
  • Experience working across multiple channels including digital, retail, and marketing partnerships
