Job Title: Lead Compositor

Framestore is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Compositor to join our Melbourne studio. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading small teams of artists and working closely with the Comp Supervisor and HOD to deliver high-quality animation for a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Compositing Supervisor and Visual Effects Supervisor to evaluate the creative and technical approach to assigned shots
  • Provide briefs and direction to the team to ensure the appropriate execution of shots
  • Train and mentor more junior artists
  • Integrate 2D, 3D, and live-action elements to high-end visual effects film standard
  • Meet schedules and show deadlines
  • Act as the key contact for production and supervisors, ensuring clear communication and adapting to changes in production and scheduling
  • Take responsibility for the team's workload, time management, and notes/feedback actions required by Supervisors
  • Balance the creative and technical aspects of each shot
  • Work with a good knowledge of colour space principles
  • Establish workflow templates, methods of compositing, and provide documentation for other artists on the team where necessary
  • Ensure that department tools are available for your team and properly set up for the show
  • Attend dailies and present the work of your team, guide artists on how to present work
  • Provide regular feedback to your artists and ensure quality control for the artists on the team
Requirements:
  • At least 4 years of previous experience working in a film VFX pipeline
  • Previous experience as a Senior or Lead Artist
  • An excellent working knowledge of and production experience with Nuke
  • A familiarity with stereo compositing and working with multiple render passes
  • A strong eye for detail, composition, colour, and lighting
  • An understanding of colour space principles
  • A working knowledge of the overall VFX pipeline
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex topics relevant to compositing and connected departments
  • Able to work well under pressure and to deadlines
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with other departments
  • A pro-active and collaborative work ethic
  • The ability to multitask, prioritise, and problem-solve
Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of practical lighting for photography
  • Experience in dealing and communicating with clients
  • Programming and coding experience and knowledge
