Training Officer - Rural Fire Service

The role of a Training Officer in the rural fire service is pivotal in coordinating, facilitating, delivering, and evaluating training to volunteers and brigades across various districts. The position ensures compliance with Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and organisational audit requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate formal and informal training sessions to ensure volunteers are adequately equipped.
  2. Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in current capabilities, seeking input from brigades and stakeholders on training requirements.
  3. Provide area input into the development of annual training plans, focusing on volunteer training.
  4. Coordinate onboarding activities for new brigade volunteers, such as inductions, to build operational responsiveness capability.
  5. Ensure timely updates and advice on training are provided to brigades, developing strategies to address identified gaps or issues.
  6. Assist in conducting training evaluation and assurance activities to support continuous improvement of volunteer training strategies and programs.
  7. Participate in forums, communities of practice, and working groups to develop rural fire service training knowledge, skills, and capabilities.

Essential Requirements:

  • Meet mandatory attributes as outlined in the generic RFSQ Rural Officer Two (RFSO2) role description.
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation is highly desirable.
