Director of Strategic Transformation

As a senior leader within the Defence Science Technology Group, you will play a leading role in driving strategic transformation initiatives to support the Chief Defence Scientist in responding to Defence needs.

This is a trusted position that presents a unique opportunity during a time of significant transformation. Your creativity and leadership will shine as you deliver innovative transformation initiatives that achieve Defence priorities.

You will manage a small team working on diverse transformation projects, shaping and driving the development and implementation of DSTGs Transformation Framework.

Working closely with Senior Leadership, you will focus on internal transformation activities to support employee engagement and organisational culture.

To be successful in this role, you will foster exceptionally strong relationships with stakeholders, identify and manage resistance, craft strategies to minimise disruption and maximise the benefits of process and system changes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Positively communicating transformation aims, ensuring high quality outcomes through direction, mentoring and coaching.
  • Leading project management activities independently and being accountable for delivery of strategic transformation.
  • Providing high level quality advice, input and responsive support to senior leaders on change and transformation.
  • Collaborating with teams and stakeholders to build understanding of change impact, assisting with development of effective communication and transition plans.

About the Team

The Science Strategic Planning & Engagement Division plays an exciting role by strategically positioning DSTG to deliver impact for Defence. The division coordinates and develops external engagements, science policy, strategic research programs, workforce initiatives, strategic transformation and investment in DSTG's science and technology capabilities.

Situated within SSPE, the Transformation Management Office facilitates the implementation of strategic transformation initiatives, focusing on internal change activities within the Group.

The TMO team welcomes, supports and empowers staff through encouragement of ideas, insights and opinions, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

You will have experience in developing and implementing evidence-based frameworks, programs and/or initiatives to support transformation outcomes, and a demonstrated understanding of issues and trends relating to change management.

You will thrive on solving problems, communicating strong narratives around transformation, inspiring others to deliver great outcomes. You will develop sustainable collaborations and partnerships to drive continuous improvement, identify and implement solutions and provide thought leadership in areas of responsibility.

You will influence and build strong relationships to work seamlessly across Defence and more broadly, thinking strategically and bringing new ideas to implement at pace and scale.
