Electrical Draftsperson Role Overview

The role involves preparing cost estimates for the manufacture of electrical substations, switchboards, and associated control gear for mining and tunnelling clients. This position will be responsible for accurate and timely preparation of quotes and tender submissions to ensure a constant flow of work.

This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Securing and maintaining a healthy pipeline for manufacturing projects
  • Ensuring bid accuracy both technically and commercially
  • Maintaining high standards of ethics and compliance
  • Facilitating handover from estimating to engineering/construction teams
  • Driving value engineering for both clients and stakeholders
  • Preparing detailed drawings, plans, and diagrams of electrical installations and circuitry
  • Assisting Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists in design and layout of electrical installations and circuitry on substations, switchgear, cabling systems, and motor control systems
  • Collecting data, performing tests, and complex calculations, graphing results, and preparing charts and tabulations
  • Estimating materials costs and quantities
  • Inspecting designs and finished products for compliance with specifications and regulations
  • Undertaking electrical workshop functions such as installing assemblies for protection relays, metering, and indicating devices
  • Assisting with research and experimentation programs
Requirements
  • Great communication and time management skills
  • Current driver's license and working rights in Australia
  • Knowledge of LV & MV equipment & switchgear
  • At least 5 years' experience in the electrical industry (electrical manufacturing preferred)
  • Ability to use computer systems and Autocad software
