
Electronic Systems Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Technician to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical support to the real-time earth monitoring data systems that make up the National Observatory Networks.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing expert technical advice and assistance to team members, undertaking regular periods of travel to conduct site installs and repairs, and maintaining technical knowledge and continuing to develop expertise in various aspects of electronic, communications, and power system processes.
This role works closely with key internal and external stakeholders and requires a high level of communication skills to report and manage technical issues to stakeholders and clients and deliver mission-critical activities within Geoscience Australia.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing expert technical set-up, installation, and advice on the instruments, systems, and equipment that make up the observatory monitoring networks.
- Solving complex technical issues across the Observatory Monitoring Networks and providing expert technical advice and assistance to team members.
- Undertaking regular periods of travel for periods up to 3 weeks, including weekends and after hours, to conduct site installs and repairs and maintenance to seismic monitoring infrastructure.
- Carrying out physically demanding work including in what can be extreme weather environments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated ability and use of electronics equipment.
- Demonstrated ability in stakeholder/client engagement and ability to communicate your advice and messages clearly.
- Certificate III in electronics and communications (highly desirable).
- Expertise in development, construction, operation, and maintenance of seismic monitoring systems (highly desirable).
- Experience working with low voltage DC, solar, and mains power (highly desirable).
- Experience in communication systems and ICT networking (highly desirable).
- Experience in scientific instruments (highly desirable).
