Natural Hazards Modelling Specialist

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our Capital & Investments team as a Natural Hazards Modelling Specialist. In this role, you will contribute to the financial strength of the organization by delivering high-quality modelling and insights across natural perils and reinsurance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing modelling processes for natural hazard budgeting, reinsurance program optimisation, and allocation. Additionally, they will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely preparation of data used in natural hazard and reinsurance modelling.

As a key member of the team, you will deliver technical modelling outputs and insights to stakeholders within agreed timeframes and quality standards. You will also identify and implement opportunities to improve, automate, and simplify modelling and analytical workflows.

Collaboration with external consultants and reinsurance brokers will be an essential aspect of this role, as you will validate data and modelling results. Building strong relationships with internal teams is also crucial to ensure that modelling advice aligns with evolving business needs.

  • 5+ years experience in financial services, ideally with exposure to general insurance
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel, VBA, SQL, and SAS; Python experience desirable
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills
  • Ability to manage small to medium projects independently
  • Tertiary qualifications in Actuarial, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Near-completion or recently qualified Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (or equivalent) desired
