As a controls engineer with AWS, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our global infrastructure. Our team is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all aspects of AWS global infrastructure.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced controls engineer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for working closely with internal business teams and colocation vendors to identify and resolve operational and design deficiencies that could impact site capabilities or availability.

You will provide full life-cycle support to data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. Your expertise and experience will be essential in providing technical advice and collaborating with diverse teams to ensure consistent standards across colocation data centers and AWS owned sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with control teams to develop and implement new and existing standards.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for controls systems at new colocation data centers to ensure consistency with AWS standards.
  • Review and identify risks within building management systems (BMS) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) at in-flight AWS colocation data centers.
  • Review and accept proposed changes to site-specific control infrastructure against AWS data center standards and document accepted deviations when necessary.
  • Review colo and hybrid controls sequence of operation and provide feedback to design teams.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis, and create corrective action documentation for site/equipment failures related to control equipment.
  • Conduct site audits of colo data centers, including producing reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in project coordination with multiple teams or vendors to meet project requirements.
  • Experience with industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities, including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities.
  • Familiarity with design, configuration, or servicing of various control systems, such as Siemens Apogee, Honeywell Building Controls, Trend Building Controls, Schneider Electric PowerLogic/Struxureware, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Tridium Niagra, Eaton Foreseer, ABB Decathalon, Johnson Controls Metasys.
