About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional academic leader to fill the role of Professor of Social Work, focusing on regional and rural education and research. The successful candidate will be the senior academic in our established social work program, contributing to the training of future social work professionals through research, teaching, and community engagement.
This continuing position is situated at the South West campus and will join a dedicated team of academics delivering a Bachelor of Social Work and, from 2025, a Master of Social Work. This team is also engaged in significant research addressing various social justice issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary academic leadership in Social Work, encompassing teaching, research, and community engagement.
- Collaborate with senior leaders on innovative course and research program developments, particularly in social leadership and social justice.
- Mentor junior colleagues while maintaining a robust research agenda and contributing to curriculum development.
- Work closely with course coordinators and the Director of the University Department of Rural Health to enhance participation in social work initiatives.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the School to enhance academic work.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished academic, currently serving as an Associate Professor or Professor within the Australian higher education sector, with a strong involvement in social work scholarship through teaching and research. A commitment to regional and rural education is essential.
We are looking for someone who thrives in an environment where leadership, partnerships, and community engagement are pivotal to academic success. The candidate should be passionate about the future of social work, advocate for inclusion and diversity, and possess the skills necessary for building strong professional alliances.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in social work or a closely related field and must be eligible for membership in the Australian Association of Social Workers. They should demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

- Research: Lead research initiatives that provide innovative solutions beneficial to society.
- Teaching: Deliver exceptional educational experiences that meet student and community needs.
- Engagement: Build partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance teaching and research outcomes.

Experience in social work within regional and rural contexts is highly desirable. Candidates should embody the values of integrity, respect, and personal excellence.
