Electronics Engineer

As an Electronics Engineer - Aviation with the Australian Defence Force, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of advanced technology and sophisticated electronic systems across all aspects of the Air Force.
This leadership position involves managing a team of skilled technicians responsible for servicing, maintaining, and sustaining airborne electronic systems, including power generation and distribution, radar and navigation, surveillance, electronic control, mission, communications, and electronic warfare.
Your day-to-day work will be diverse and may include:
- Operational Engineering - Leading skilled technicians at an operational Air Base to maintain and configure Air Force equipment for daily missions.
- Sustainment Engineering - Collaborating with the defence industry to modify, upgrade, and ensure the continued effectiveness of our Air Force equipment.
- Project Engineering - Applying project and engineering management skills as the Air Force acquires new capability to meet Australia's evolving needs.
- Safety Engineering - Influencing aviation safety by investigating technical incidents and managing workforce standards such as training and qualifications.
- Any Officer Roles - Broadening your officer skills through roles such as training and staff officer positions to prepare you for higher command responsibilities.
We'll provide you with the knowledge you need to start your career in electronics engineering. After completing Initial Military Training, most engineers will undertake a Professional Development and Training (PD&T) year, during which time you will rotate and explore different roles on an Air Force base every few months. Your Initial Employment Training will also occur during this period. At the completion of this, you will be posted to a formal position and continue to rotate around new roles approximately every 2-3 years to gain the depth and breadth of experience required to develop you as a competent engineering leader with increasing levels of responsibility.
As part of your role, you'll also have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications and experience, such as becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in the Leadership and Management College of Engineers Australia (EA).
You'll have a fulfilling career with plenty of potential for growth and opportunity, which could include specialising in areas such as electronic warfare, avionics systems design, or aircraft capability acquisition.
This is not your typical engineering role. In the Air Force, you'll be given a breadth of experience and opportunities to work on things that you couldn't otherwise in the civilian world – including advanced aircraft.
Take your opportunity to put your passion for engineering to use in an exciting and rewarding career. Not only will this job give you exposure to world-class training and mentoring opportunities exclusive to the Air Force, but you'll be actively helping to protect our country.
