Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Policy Officer to join our team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of strategic advice on Treaty related matters and whole-of-government Treaty reform.

The Policy Officer will assist in leading Treaty negotiations with First Peoples' Representative groups on behalf of the State and embedding a coordinated approach for a Statewide Treaty and Traditional Owner Treaties with Aboriginal Victorians.

About the Role:

  • Provide high quality, strategic, clear, evidence-based and solution-focussed policy advice and work outputs for the Treaty Negotiations and Strategy branch and departmental senior executives, Ministers and the Premier.
  • Assist in researching, correspondence, briefings, Cabinet Submissions and reports on sensitive issues within tight timeframes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to initiate, deliver and manage strategic projects on time and to a high standard.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations.

Requirements:

  • A passion for treaty and justice for Victoria's First Peoples.
  • An understanding of government processes.
  • Experience working with marginalised or vulnerable groups.
