Public Relations Officer Role

As a Public Relations Officer, you will be responsible for promoting the Army's mission and maintaining its reputation.

  • Advise senior commanders on issues management and develop effective communication strategies.
  • Develop and implement media engagement plans, liaising with local and national press.
  • Conduct media awareness training sessions and manage content production, including social media and articles.

This role offers a highly competitive salary and generous benefits package. You will have the opportunity to work in a specialist public affairs unit or deploy overseas on operations, exercises or other Defence activities.

You'll be required to undertake military training, maintain an ongoing level of fitness and be willing to be posted to a military base in Australia or overseas. The key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing effective communication strategies.
  • Liaising with media representatives and conducting media awareness training.
  • Managing the production of content, including photographs, videos and articles.
  • Advising senior commanders on issues management and crisis communications.

With this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including Australian Defence Headquarters in Canberra, as well as units in Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville and Darwin. You will also have the opportunity to deploy overseas on operations, exercises or other Defence activities.

This role requires a high level of fitness and flexibility, as you may be required to work irregular hours or travel to remote locations.
