Storyteller and Investigative Journalist

We are looking for a skilled storyteller and investigative journalist to join our team. As a Senior Reporter, you will play a pivotal role in uncovering and delivering compelling journalism to our audience.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for sourcing, writing, and producing high-quality news articles tailored for our readers. This will involve finding exclusive angles on significant stories from around the state and proactively chasing down leads to secure unique perspectives.

In addition, you will cover national and global breaking news, stay updated on trending topics, and generate fresh story ideas through social media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing and Writing: Sourcing, writing, and producing high-quality news articles tailored for our readers.
  • Research and Investigation: Finding exclusive angles on significant stories from around the state and proactively chasing down leads to secure unique perspectives.
  • Media Coverage: Covering national and global breaking news, staying updated on trending topics, and generating fresh story ideas through social media.
  • Pitching and Delivery: Pitching and delivering distinctive content that stimulates discussions, encourages engagement, and promotes reader growth.
  • Data Analysis: Employing analytics to make informed decisions about future story selections, ensuring new insights on popular subjects.

Requirements:

  • Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in a digital newsroom.
  • Passion and Motivation: A passion for uncovering breaking stories and securing exclusive perspectives on prevailing topics.
  • Ideas and Network: Motivation, innovative ideas, and a robust network of contacts facilitating major story breaks.
  • Writing Skills: Strong writing skills, leveraging headlines and images to captivate readers, with a strong desire for widespread readership.
  • Legal Knowledge: Sound legal knowledge, working independently, and sourcing own stories.
  • Flexibility: An interest in actively engaging with finance topics appealing to news.com.au readers.
