The Opportunity:

We seek an experienced Communications Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team in Canberra. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering impactful communications that support the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communications: Develop and implement strategic communication initiatives that support our vision and foster system-wide change.
  • Content Creation: Produce and manage digital and print content across multiple channels, ensuring messaging remains impactful, relevant, and aligned with organisational goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to ensure communications are culturally responsive, accurate, and engaging.
  • Media Management: Oversee media relations, respond to media inquiries, and manage press coverage to promote positive visibility for our initiatives.
  • Internal Communications: Develop materials that keep staff informed and engaged, cultivating a supportive and culturally inclusive workplace environment.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensure all communications adhere to brand guidelines, aligning with our mission and values.
  • Event and Impact Support: Support event communications and evaluate campaign effectiveness, leveraging insights to drive continuous improvement.

About You:

  • Demonstrated experience in a communications role, ideally within the not-for-profit or community sector.
  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a commitment to advancing their social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms and creating digital content.
  • A collaborative mindset, able to balance multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field (desirable).
