About the Role

We are seeking a talented Software Engineering Professional to join our dynamic team in delivering innovative solutions for Linux-based infrastructure and applications.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your engineering expertise, working on diverse aspects of Ubuntu and open source software used by large enterprise customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Maintain close working relationships with our Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities to drive innovation and improvement.
  • Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate with upstream developers for inclusion.
  • Review code produced by colleagues to ensure high standards.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in technical approaches and techniques.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and manage time accordingly.
  • Contribute to team discussions to enhance processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Maintain clear, concise communication with stakeholders.

This role involves addressing critical issues in the open source stack, requiring upstream bug fixes. Our engineers work productively at various levels of the stack, including the kernel and multiple languages, to understand and address software issues. Our group is essential to the success of our customers, partners, and Ubuntu itself.

Requirements
  • An exceptional academic record.
  • A background in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technologies and tackle challenging issues.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for internal events.
