About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Scientific Officer to join our high-performing team in a multidisciplinary laboratory located in Tamworth on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding and skillset across various disciplines of Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, and Point of Care testing in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties across disciplines in Haematology, Haemostasis, and Biochemistry.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, clinical, and laboratory staff.
  • Validate results and provide comprehensive reports to assist with client or clinical decisions in a time-critical manner.
  • Ensure quality control and quality management across various departments and adhere to NATA requirements/ISO 15189.
  • Perform regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on instrumentation, equipment, and manual techniques, and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in regular training for relevant techniques and instrument operation and engage in ongoing departmental competency programs and external quality assurance initiatives.
  • Display a customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients, and clinical and laboratory staff.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager and Chief Scientists from Core Laboratory to identify areas for improvement and implement workflow enhancements for continuous laboratory improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science), or Diploma of Health Science (Pathology Techniques) or equivalent.
  • Ability to work a Monday-Saturday rotating roster and participate in an on-call roster.
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary clinical laboratory is desired.
  • A current NSW Driver's License.
  • Recent experience in Haematology, Haemostasis, Transfusion medicine, and Biochemistry.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in all tasks.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
