About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join our team at Lawyers Weekly. As a Senior Legal Advisor, you will play a critical role in providing expert legal advice to support our operational and corporate functions, and to manage our representation in courts and tribunals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal advice to support the development and implementation of our business strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with business areas to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Work as part of a team to support our mission and priorities, and engage directly with senior officers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including directors, managers, and staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with national security legislation and provide expert advice on its application.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years post-admission experience in legal practice, or comparable experience.
  • Recognised law degree from an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas qualification recognised in Australia.
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia.
  • Excellent technical skills across one or more of the following key areas: statutory interpretation, administrative law, criminal law and law enforcement, litigation, commercial and employment law.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and consult stakeholders proactively.
  • Innovative thinking with strong strategic awareness, including engaging with risk.
