Over the years, the Foundation has seen its income surge from an initial fundraising total of $110,000 to over $42 million, which constitutes nearly half of the Institute's overall revenue. This impressive growth has significantly enhanced our researchers' capacity to contribute to scientific advancements aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately the prevention or cure of various diseases.
Position Overview
The Legacy Giving Coordinator will report directly to the Bequest Manager and play a vital role in expanding the bequest and mid-value programs within the Garvan Research Foundation. This position is particularly suitable for individuals returning to the workforce, those considering a career change, or recent graduates seeking meaningful employment.
This role emphasizes strong donor relationship management and exceptional customer service, ensuring high-quality supporter care and stewardship across both mid-value and bequest initiatives. You will engage in personalized interactions with donors through various channels, including phone and face-to-face meetings, focusing on conversion and retention strategies for both new and existing donor groups.
The Foundation's fundraising efforts encompass donor appeals, acquisition campaigns, personalized tours, events, public seminars, and supporter communication. Mid-value supporters, bequest prospects, and confirmed bequestors (termed Partners for the Future) receive dedicated support from the Bequest Team, with the goal of fostering relationships that enhance both financial contributions and commitment to Garvan.
Compensation
Salary: Up to $70,000, plus superannuation and salary packaging options.

Key Responsibilities
Supporter Care and Stewardship
- Deliver outstanding relationship management and customer service to all Garvan donors, Partners for the Future, bequest prospects, visitors, and special guests.
- Engage in active listening during phone calls to build relationships and guide supporters along their donor journey.
- Conduct engagement calls with mid-value supporters and bequest prospects to provide timely touchpoints throughout their donor experience.
Database Management and Administration
- Maintain detailed and accurate supporter records, including data entry and documentation of conversations and meetings.
- Assist in research efforts to identify new donor prospects.
Communications, Planning, and Reporting
- Execute communications via mail, email, or phone to qualify supporters in their donor journey.
- Coordinate the timely dispatch of bequest inquiry, prospect, and conversion packages.
- Prepare and draft personalized communications, including welcome letters and certificates.
Event Engagement Activities
- Support the planning and execution of bequest program events, including morning teas and personalized tours.
- Assist in developing objectives, timelines, budgets, and event programs.
- Manage event RSVPs and guest lists.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in fundraising or marketing is desirable but not mandatory.
- Transferable skills from other sectors will also be considered.
- Proficient in database management and CRM systems; experience with Raisers Edge is a plus.
- Background in customer service or people-facing roles.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building capabilities.
- Administrative experience with a focus on process-driven tasks, including data merging and record keeping.
- High proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office Suite.
- Exceptional telephone etiquette and customer service skills.
- Strong written communication skills, including drafting letters and reports.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective time management and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
