Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner - Mental Health Specialist. This role will involve providing high-quality evidence-based mental health services to patients across Australia. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary health care team, you will undertake intake assessments, risk assessments, crisis intervention, case formulation, and medication management, as well as extra support services as required.
About the Role
You will be working in a dynamic and supportive environment, collaborating with a team of experienced healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. Your management of crisis presentations, risk assessment and risk management planning will be supported within a multi-disciplinary team and by the Senior Mental Health team for your region.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and develop tailored treatment plans
- Deliver high-quality evidence-based mental health services, including medication management and therapy sessions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated care to patients
- Participate in continuous professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and best practice guidelines
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Credentialed with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN); OR minimum qualification of Graduate Diploma Mental Health Nursing; OR undergraduate trained Mental Health Nurse (UK); OR trained and registered as a Psychiatric Nurse / Mental Health Nurse
- Minimum of 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) Post Graduate experience in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification
- Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable)
- Knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023 (desirable)
- Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA with a minimum of 10 hours directly related to mental health
Salary & Benefits
This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a supportive environment with a competitive salary package. You will receive a base salary of approximately $115,000 per annum, plus superannuation and other benefits. Additionally, you will have access to ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your clinical skills and knowledge.
Lavarack Health Centre
Lavarack Health Centre is located in Townsville at Lavarack Barracks, one of the largest Army bases in Australia. This facility provides primary medical, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, and pharmaceutical care to Defence members, and consists of a 24/7 inpatient ward. The standard operating hours of the centre are 0730-1600 Monday-Friday.
