ROLE OVERVIEW

The Senior Risk and Compliance Cyber Specialist is tasked with driving continuous enhancements in cyber security governance, risk management, and compliance. This position also involves providing expert consulting services to significant Australian Federal Government clients. The role requires the development of cyber security policies and strategies while collaborating with a highly skilled team to strengthen client security frameworks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with internal teams to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  • Perform compliance evaluations against government-wide and industry benchmarks.
  • Develop threat models tailored to the specific context and systems of the organization.
  • Draft and refine security policies and operational procedures.
  • Facilitate the enhancement of cyber security awareness and posture to safeguard systems and data.
  • Lead a team to achieve project objectives within defined timelines and budgets.
  • Support the automation of data collection and reporting services for cyber security.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to fulfill privacy, security, compliance, and financial goals through effective security measures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be an Australian citizen with an AGSVA security clearance (minimum NV1).
  • Over 5 years of experience in delivering cyber security solutions across diverse projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of cyber security standards and frameworks (e.g., ISM, PSPF, Essential 8, NIST, ISO 27001/27002).
  • Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to collaborate effectively with various clients and team members.
  • Experience in conducting risk and compliance assessments in ICT environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of governance principles related to cyber security.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage time effectively and deliver results as part of a dynamic team.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in preparing tenders and writing proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing high-performing, multidisciplinary cyber security teams and mentoring junior consultants.
  • Proven success in business development and generating profitable new business opportunities.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with cyber security reporting and metrics at the board level.
  • Experience engaging with senior Federal Government representatives.
  • Practical experience with a wide range of security deliverables.
  • Understanding of technical concepts and experience supporting IT systems.
  • Consulting experience.
  • A network of contacts within the cyber security industry.
