About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Inspector to join our team at the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanical professional with experience in the mining industry to make a real difference in promoting work health and safety.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting workplace inspections and audits, preparing reports and notices related to Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and mechanical aspects applicable to mining operations.

You will also investigate incidents, prepare reports and materials for enforcement action and industry education, and provide technical advice to stakeholders, professional associations, and the community on matters related to WHS in mining and exploration.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in a mechanical discipline relevant to the resources sector, demonstrated knowledge and experience of practical application of work health and safety legislation and/or risk management principles in a mechanical context within the resources sector, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare reports and notices related to WHS legislation and mechanical aspects applicable to mining operations
  • Investigate incidents and prepare reports and materials for enforcement action and industry education
  • Provide technical advice to stakeholders, professional associations, and the community on matters related to WHS in mining and exploration
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in a mechanical discipline relevant to the resources sector
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of practical application of work health and safety legislation and/or risk management principles in a mechanical context within the resources sector
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment

This role offers a competitive salary package, including:

  • A salary range of $90,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on experience
