Job Description:

  • This is a key leadership role within the Biosecurity Division of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading policy development, shaping legislation, stakeholder engagement, consultation and strategic analysis to support the Biosecurity Act Implementation Team and related departmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

">
  • Develop and implement effective policy solutions through expert advice, stakeholder engagement, consultation and strategic analysis.
  • Provide high-quality documentation including discussion papers, policy positions and draft regulations.
  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders across government and industry.
  • Translate complex technical insights into actionable policy and oversee Program Delivery Officers where applicable.
  • Contribute to wider departmental initiatives and ensure alignment with government processes and biosecurity frameworks.

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to critically assess complex biosecurity systems and legislation.
  • Ability to identify gaps, inconsistencies and opportunities for reform; interpret trends, risks and emerging issues.
  • High-level verbal communication skills to distill complex policy and legislative concepts into clear advice and documentation.
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders across government and industry.
  • Leadership capabilities in providing oversight to Program Delivery Officers.
