Job Title

Lead Future Power System Studies.

Manage a team of engineers, leading technical voices on emerging power system phenomena, identifying risks ahead of time and enabling proactive solutions. Partner with Network Service Providers and internal teams to deliver high-quality services and advice. Flexibility to work in various locations across Australia.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Future System Studies team, fostering an inclusive culture and developing a high-performing team that demonstrates AEMO's values. Manage external consultants when required.
  • Lead future power system study elements of the Engineering Roadmap and Transition Plan for System Security, including analysis of emerging phenomena, new technology capabilities, and major system transition points.
  • Develop and maintain power system study capability, tools, models, and future state cases for technical investigations.
  • Specify technical requirements and capability from emerging technologies, including grid forming inverters.
  • Lead projects evaluating service contributions of assets, delivering planning studies with AEMO's System Security Planning team and Transmission Network Service Providers.
  • Provide engineering expertise and advisory services to support policy, regulatory, and market development, ensuring technical and power system engineering requirements are met.
  • Motivate the team to deliver accountabilities, influence stakeholders, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice on future power system development and energy system issues.
  • Communicate complex information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences, managing team budget, risk, resourcing, and compliance obligations.

Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Deep expertise in large power system operation and planning, and engineering challenges related to the NEM power system transition.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing teams in complex technical environments, shaping a proactive and ownership-based team culture.
  • Experience in project planning, reporting, and delivery, ensuring projects are completed to budget and schedule, and to a high quality.
  • Well-developed analytical skills sufficient to review, critique, and approve modelled outcomes for key stakeholder messages.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing strategic changes, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation.
  • Understanding of the NER, the NEM, and Rule change framework.
