About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Bushfire Mitigation Strategy team as a manager. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of bushfire management principles and experience in developing and implementing statewide mitigation strategies.

Purpose of the Role

The Bushfire Resilience and Operational Support Branch sits within the Strategic Capability Division, leading strategic and operational asset management, bushfire mitigation strategy, and land use planning resilience for the Rural Fire Service (RFS). The Mitigation Strategy team is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of bushfire mitigation strategies across the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop statewide bushfire mitigation frameworks, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and best practices.
  • Provide statewide coordination of the Bushfire Mitigation program of works, contributing to strategic direction, policy development, and regional implementation.
  • Liaise with Regional and/or District bushfire committees and local communities with bushfire mitigation strategies and planning.
  • Work with Regional staff to develop strategic mitigation partnerships with stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of bushfire risk and mitigation plans.
  • Lead the bushfire prevention and preparedness community education approach, including coordination of support for the Volunteer Community Educator (VCE) network.
Requirements
  • Must meet the mandatory requirements as outlined in the generic Rural Fire Service Inspector role description.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the concepts, strategies, and issues associated with managing a volunteer environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders from rural and remote communities.
