Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability

Are you a passionate and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with a specialization in intellectual and developmental disabilities? We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to join our team at Spinner Medical Recruitment.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a dedicated multi-disciplinary team providing exceptional care in one of Australia's most desirable locations. As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability, you will be a key clinical leader in the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Mental Health team, delivering specialist psychiatric support across inpatient and community settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop positive behaviour support plans and manage acute medical interventions.
  • Lead, develop, and implement MDT training.
  • Provide a consultation liaison service with hospital wards.
  • Provide liaison with mainstream services such as adult psychiatry and CAMHS, develop local pathways, and promote your department.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and support a culture of safety and high performance.
  • Mentor and supervise junior medical staff, ensuring high standards of clinical practice.
  • Support departmental research activities.
Requirements
  • Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or equivalent.
  • Whilst not essential, qualifications in intellectual disability will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in adult general psychiatry and/or intellectual and developmental disability (desirable).
  • Strong clinical and teaching experience.
  • A collaborative approach to your work.
  • Willingness to participate in the on-call and after-hours roster.
