
Support Firefighter

Auxiliary firefighters are a vital asset to fire and emergency services agencies, providing critical support to communities through proactive prevention, prompt response, and sustained recovery efforts.
The key objective of auxiliary firefighters is to ensure the safety of people and property by delivering high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services. This collaborative approach enables improved safety outcomes for the community through effective service delivery and stakeholder engagement.
Auxiliary firefighters must commit to attending incidents and emergencies with a minimum attendance rate of 50% as day workers with routine hours or 30% as shift workers with non-routine hours. They must also attend 75% of regular drills and training sessions, obtain a manual C Class driver's licence within 12 months of employment, and participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs.
- Respond promptly to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a team.
- Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through targeted education and awareness initiatives.
- Develop and maintain competencies through regular drills and training courses provided by fire and emergency services agencies.
- Maintain exceptional attendance standards for emergency incidents and training activities.
- Operate complex firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively.
- Contribute to the upkeep and hygiene of station facilities.
Auxiliary firefighters will be assessed on leadership and management behavioural competencies, including performance through vision, results, accountability, and more. They are expected to exemplify shared values such as respect, integrity, trust, courage, and loyalty.
Key Requirements- Written consent from employers to attend incidents and emergencies.
- Residence or workplace proximity to auxiliary fire stations.
- Australian permanent resident status.
- Manual C Class driver's licence.
