Lead STEM Outreach and Engagement Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead to join our Workforce Capability and Talent Team in Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

The role will involve leading STEM outreach and engagement, shaping Defence's approach to the sector, and building a strong Defence S&T talent pipeline.

  • Shaping Defence STEM engagement as the Secretariat of the Defence STEM Council.
  • Establishing enterprise-level governance and reporting, and overseeing working groups and committees.
  • Developing effective partnerships with industry and academia to strengthen strategic diverse entry pathways into Defence S&T.
  • Establishing a STEM Scholarships framework to meet the future needs of Defence.
  • Maintaining robust relationships with key stakeholders to partner across the STEM ecosystem in Australia.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to develop high-quality senior stakeholder material in short time frames.

You will lead a team who delivers on student programs, cross-organisational STEM programs, scholarships, and outreach activities. You will be a team player and leader who can develop sustainable collaborations and partnerships to drive continuous improvement, identify and implement solutions, and provide thought leadership in building a diverse STEM talent pool.

About Our Team:

Our Workforce Capability and Talent Branch within Operations Enablement Division is responsible for driving Defence Science and Technology success by aligning strategic, policy, and cultural realities to respond to the ever-evolving needs of Defence.

We ensure there is a strong, diverse pipeline to meet the future workforce demand for Defence science and technology through planning workforce capability, partnering to build a STEM pipeline, and developing sustainable talent management strategies.
